I think I have aged out of fireworks. All fireworks. These things sneak up on you, but I participated in not one single firework involved activity this year and it was a glorious time for me. Fireworks are like motorcycles and boats in my world. You probably should try them a few times when you’re young, but making a habit out of them can get you maimed sooner than expected or planned, so tapering off as you age is probably a decent idea.
I didn’t say you had to agree; I’m just spitting my opinion. Buy the boat, dance in the rain, I’m not telling you how to live, just how I do.
I read that Willie Nelson had quit smoking weed and I refuse to believe that was a “let’s get healthy moment.” That is the epitome of “aging out.” Willie didn’t wake up one day in his 90’s and say he was going to get off the weed, he unfortunately, aged out. I’m sad for Willie.
If you’re 65 years old and tell me you got sober, I’m going to credit your advanced age more than your 12-step programming, but that’s just my contrarian view of the world.
To his credit, Willie lasted much longer than most. It’s hard to keep bad habits going, death and aging out are undefeated against a good old-fashioned vice.
The mainstream media is so slanted that I’ve made it a habit to not watch anymore, but I have seen many clips of Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent making fools of TV talking heads. The interesting thing to me about Bessent is that he is an uber rich, gay man in the Trump administration that the media tries to corner daily as opposed to the kid glove treatment they gave President Biden’s Transportation Secretary Pete Buttigieg, who is also gay. It’s almost as if liberal gay people are to be treated differently than conservative gay people.
Buttigieg was constantly celebrated for his sexual orientation, and Bessent is constantly ambushed over his economic policies.
Or. . .I’m just spit balling here, maybe the average person doesn’t care about sexual orientation in governance and the media just uses it to drive a wedge in constituencies. Surely not.
As first rumored to me by Publisher Foley a while back, Kansas City Councilman Nathan Willett has announced a run for Team Tony’s senate seat, when Tony Luetkemeyer terms out. Willett first hit my radar when he was at Mizzou. He successfully ran for class president with a running mate from my old stomping grounds of Savannah, so I followed along via social media around 2017 or so.
Anyway, Willett survived one of the toughest political times in the history of Mizzou. It was the liberal rebirth of higher education students across the country and that’s a fairly good testing ground for a conservative. Survival of the fittest, if you will.
Jumping from Mizzou liberal politics to being a city councilman in Kansas City is another badge of honor. It isn’t easy being a conservative, Northland representative of Kansas City. I’m not clear on who gets the money people in this race (i.e., Herzog), but if Willett gets their nod, it’s probably over.
Foley has pointed out that this Senate district has turned purple in some areas over the last few elections (here’s to you, Parkville) and Willett may be savvy enough to bridge the uber red northern Platte County and Buchanan County with the liberal tones of southern Platte.
