Platte County Fair schedule set: carnival, queen contest and other events are planned. Grandstand show each evening, Pony Express, demolition derby, and more activities are planned at the Platte County Fairgrounds in Tracy.


The Platte County Sheriff’s Department has received a 1979 Buick, fully equipped for use by the traffic unit within the county. Receiving the car from F.M. Wilson, director of the Missouri Department of Public Safety, are John M. Reineke, presiding judge of the county administrative court and Tom Thomas, sheriff. The car was made possible through the combined efforts of Gov. Joseph P. Teasdale with state assistance, John Birch, state representative, and county officials.

A big ladder came in handy as a new sign was erected at Crouch Drug Store on Main Street in Platte City last week. Despite hot temperatures, a number of area businessmen gathered to watch the crew from Liberty Sign Co. do its stuff.


A 24-hour everyday news/advertising/bill payment slot is being operated by The Landmark at its office in downtown Platte City. One of the first users was Shirley Kimsey, a Platte City retailer.


The Platte City Lions Club held its annual dinner meeting and installation of officers Friday evening in Leavenworth.
