School bonds, protests and wrestling

“No tax increase bond issues” are my new favorite government sales pitch. School districts are all in on this rage. It basically just means that the districts can borrow money without currently raising the tax levy, but the “improvements” remain a new expense and cost to the districts that eventually have to be paid and most likely extends debt, in times of higher debt costs, but who’s to question anything “for the kids.”

Just spit balling “against the kids” here, but wouldn’t this also mean that if new bonds were not issued the alternative would be a “tax decrease?” Yeah, you’re right, that’s near communist thought process, I’ll probably get deported from my school district for such thoughts, or at the very least get something put on my permanent record.

Real estate, education, roundabouts

The entire education system is just broken and unfortunately, many of the great people that you and I know who work in education just have to simply be a part of a broken system and do the best they can despite the headwinds created by years of mostly federal and state regulation that has stripped local school boards of any real control.

I got busy this weekend and did not make it out to any protests. I did, however, drive by a guy on the Plaza who was protesting something to do with Ukraine. I always admire those people for the amount of free time they must have. Do they wake up on Saturday morning and say, “I’m gonna skip golf with the fellas and head down to the Plaza to move the needle on public opinion to support the Ukrainian war effort.”

Couldn’t they just make the Ukrainian flag their Facebook profile pic or something and still squeeze in a round of golf or some brews with the guys?

Do people drive by a protest and suddenly change their opinion about wars and perceived social injustices? I generally just think “that looks cold” or “that looks hot” today.

Former President Joe Biden went to a Broadway play last weekend. Current President Donald Trump went to the NCAA Wrestling Championships and there are still people who don’t understand why Trump is so popular.

I’m praying Trump didn’t get ringworm or cauliflower ear while attending the wrestling event. That is always a possibility, based on my limited experience. Anyway, Trump attending that event was pure genius, or maybe he just appreciates a good single leg takedown.

It appears that a corporate entity with ties to Bobby Witt has purchased a home in Clay County, near Liberty. That is a departure from most mega stars in the Kansas City region who have chosen Johnson County, Kan., the Plaza area, or Loch Lloyd area in Cass County as residences. Can this be any type of indicator for the location of a new stadium? Unlikely, but remains an interesting development.

If accurate, Witt will join acting star Eric Stonestreet as an uber famous resident of the Liberty area community. I’m not sure if this means you’re getting invited over for the backyard BBQs, but the odds are better than if they lived in Johnson County.
