Several candidates for elected positions in Platte County were at the board of elections office early Tuesday when the filing period opened at 8 a.m. Early arrivals at the office to file their paperwork were Sandy Krohne, incumbent county clerk; Gloria Boyer, incumbent county recorder of deeds; Jason Brown, who will run for presiding commissioner after years as a state representative; and county collector candidates Becky Dye and Sheila Palmer. Soon thereafter showed Eric Zahnd, incumbent prosecutor. Later came Siobhann Williams, incumbent auditor.
A petition-driven state audit of Platte County Public Water Supply District No. 6 uncovered concerns about a lack of competitive bidding, lack of adequate reviews of employees’ daily attendance records, and the need to improve its procedures for preparing minutes and documenting matters discussed in meetings. In addition, the state auditor scolds the district for not performing a formal review of water rates for several years, and says the water district is “generating excessive profits.”
A civil lawsuit brought by Platte County Commissioners against a former payroll employee of the county has been delayed. At a hearing on Feb. 11, counsel for defendant Kendra Montgomery made an oral motion “for leave to file amended answer” to the suit. Montgomery was represented by attorney Mark Jess.
