1979 has been a record year with a total of 51,103 deer checked across the state, that total is up 12,896 from last year. Previous high was in 1975, totaling over 51,491. Platte County has checked in 108, up 12 from last year. Buchanan County accounts for 137, up 35 from last year.
Michael and Debbie Wright were busy Saturday afternoon, Nov. 17, getting their rental home ready for “Ole Man Winter.” Mike said the added transparent plastic sheets over the storm window should help keep down winter utility bills.
Jean St. John has announced that she intends to file for Platte County Assessor as a Democrat. She is the wife of Robert St. John of Platte City. She was elected assessor of Clinton County in 1972. St. John has 8.5 years experience as deputy and assessor.
Fran Durham, Platte County Treasurer, and Dorothy Parrett, R.N., Platte County representatives to the American Lung Association of Western Missouri’s Board of Directors, presented an award to Vivian Gatewood, the designer of Missouri’s 1979 Christmas Seal. Vivian is a third grade student from Kansas City. The presentation took place at a recent meeting of the Lung Association in Kansas City.
