Platte City Mayor Frank Offutt announced on Thursday that after much consideration and interviewing several candidates, he has chosen former alderman John C. Higgins as his nomination to replace Aaron Jung, who recently resigned as a member of the board of aldermen. Higgins served as alderman in the late 1980s and is currently on the cemetery board and the board of zoning adjustment. “His ethics and moral character is beyond reproach,” Offutt said.

City of Weston will try once again to annex properties along Hwy. 273 after their efforts failed in the past. City Clerk Kim Kirby said a few years ago the Missouri Department of Transportation submitted a petition for the city to annex highway right of way along Hwy. 273 two miles outside of current city limits. Monday night the board of aldermen unanimously approved spending up to $3,000 to pay for title fees if area property owners want to annex. Title fees are about $120 per transaction.

It didn’t take long for former Platte City Alderman Aaron Jung to find himself back in public service. The Platte County Commission unanimously approved Jung’s appointment as trustee to the Platte County Regional Sewer District. Jung recently resigned as an alderman for Platte City after he moved out of the city limits. Jung’s term on the sewer board will be for five years.
