Platte County Presiding Commissioner Betty Knight and Missouri Gov. Jay Nixon greeted each other after a ribbon cutting ceremony Tuesday morning for the opening of the new bridge on Route E that spans the Platte River. It’s the 100th bridge completed in the Missouri Department of Transportation’s Safe and Sound Bridge Program.


Do you think your vote doesn’t count? Tell that to the North Platte Board of Education members who received the nod from voters Tuesday with the passage of a $6 million bond issue. The issue needed a 4/7th majority to pass or 57.1 percent of the vote. The issue received 57.3 percent or about three votes more than what was needed. Voter turnout was 38 percent.

Sampling in Weatherby Lake conducted by the Missouri Department of Natural Resources confirms unacceptable levels of E.Coli after a sewer line bypass on Wednesday night resulted in untreated sewage running into the lake. Residents are advised to avoid contact with the lake until further notice.


Residents of Platte City may get more bang next Fourth of July. After two rounds of meetings this week, it appears all five of the current aldermen are on board with bringing firework stands to Platte City.
