Lucile Jones announces the sale of The Landmark to Dwayne Foley of Wathena, Kan. Foley has owned and published The Wathena Times for over 20 years and has also owned and published The Horton Headlight, Horton, Kan. for nine years. Mr. Foley, a native of Macksville, Kan., has been associated with weekly newspapers for more than 30 years. New equipment is being installed at The Landmark office and will permit The Landmark to be printed by offset, a relatively new printing process.
The 114-year-old newspaper has had numerous editors since its beginning in 1865. The late Max Jones purchased The Landmark on Jan. 11, 1918 after having managed the paper for the Jenkins estate for one year. Mr. Jones served as the editor and publisher until his death April 14, 1956. At that time, Lucile L. Jones became the editor and publisher and has continued through this week’s issue of The Landmark. Mr. Foley takes over next week.
The Landmark is having an open house at the newspaper office on Friday afternoon, Nov. 2 to introduce the new editor, Dwayne Foley, Mrs. Foley and their family, to Platte County friends. “We want you to come see us as we take this giant step,” said Lucile Jones.
