Rodney U. Adrian, 58, died a little more than 24 hours after his 1995 Dodge Ram was struck on the driver’s side by a vehicle that the Missouri State Highway Patrol says failed to yield to a stop sign at the Hwy. 9 northbound ramp from Riverway Boulevard at Riverside.

The crash occurred at 1:22 p.m. on Friday, Oct. 11. The patrol’s report says it is not known if Adrian was wearing a seat belt when his pickup was struck by a 2013 Hyundai Sonata being driven by James Rushambara, 29, of Kansas City.

The patrol’s crash report says after the Sonata failed to yield and struck Adrian’s northbound Dodge Ram, the Dodge traveled off the left side of the roadway, down an embankment and overturned.

A passenger in Adrian’s pickup, Richard B. Medil, 59, of Northmoor, suffered only minor injuries and was treated at the scene. The report indicates it is unknown if Medil was wearing a safety belt.

Adrian was transported to North Kansas City Hospital by the Kansas City Fire Department, with what the patrol’s report described as serious injuries. He died at the hospital at 2:35 p.m. on Saturday, Oct. 12, says the highway patrol.

The driver of the Sonata did not suffer any apparent injuries. He was wearing a seat belt, according to the report. The Sonata had moderate damage, according to the crash report.

The Missouri State Highway Patrol was assisted at the scene by the Riverside Police Department.
