Platte County School Board member Dave Holland, student Diane Miller, board member Karen Wagoner, board president Bob Shaw, student Nick Maddux, and board member Jeana Houlahan cut the ribbon in front of the renovated Barry School Thursday evening. The school board then held its regular monthly meeting at the school.


University of Kansas Law Professor Stephen J. Ware was the featured speaker at a Constitution Day event held by the Platte County Republican Central Committee at O’Dowd’s in Zona Rosa on Sept. 16. Ware gave an overview of the Constitution and its history.

Despite significant improvements in student testing throughout the Platte County R-3 School District, results are still falling short of federal standards. Educators across the state and in the district are falling short in the standards set by the No Child Left Behind Act of 2001. Superintendent Mike Reik said the district has increased ACT scores by half a point and students are testing above state averages. Reik said the lack of meeting standards is not a negative reflection of the district but rather a negative reflection of No Child Left Behind.


Property tax rates will hold steady with no increase in the Platte County general revenue levy. County commissioners voted to keep the tax levy at two cents per $100 of assessed valuation.
