Captain Roscoe Laurie of St. Joseph of the Missouri State Highway Patrol Troop H is being promoted to the rank of major and transferring to the general headquarters in Jefferson City. The promotion is effective Aug. 1.


The public is invited to attend the Platte County Fair queen contestants’ pageant at the Hilton Airport Plaza Inn on Tuesday evening, July 17 at 8:30 p.m., where the judging will take place and the girls will name Miss Congeniality. Miss Anita Venetti, who was named queen of the Platte County Fair last year, was also named Miss Missouri at the State Fair in Sedalia last August, will be present to take part in the activities.

The Ben Franklin Store in downtown Platte City is having a grand opening sale this weekend. Bill and Betty Hoskins purchased the Ben Franklin Store some time ago and have been doing extensive remodeling and restocking the merchandise and are now celebrating with a grand opening.


Mr. and Mrs. Robert Blundell, DeKalb, announce the engagement and forthcoming marriage of their daughter, Brenda Lou, to David Lee Skaggs of Dearborn. He is the son of Anna Lou Skaggs of Dearborn and Jenks Skaggs of Faucett.
