Summer, football, Rizzo

Welcome to summer. Summer officially starts in my book when a sweaty crevice alert is in play. If you want to wait on the earth tilt to get closer to the sun to decide it’s summer that’s your choice, but mine has started.

I’ve been watching some clips of this Karen Read trial out in Massachusetts and it reminds me that we all need some “after life phone plan.” In this case, the lead police detective had a high school buddies text group and the defense attorneys got ahold of the texts and they are exactly as you would expect. Basically, crude and juvenile.

Take a break, Missouri Legislature and such

This is your reminder that you have similar group texts on your phones, and you should make some plans for the proper and permanent disposal of your phone in the event of your early demise from your earthly presence. Find someone you can trust to seek out and destroy your phone if your end comes too soon.

Actually, lawyers should throw this service in with wills and trusts, in my opinion.

An increase in Platte County sales tax should help tap down inflation locally, right?

I’m about ready for football. Way too early to talk this way, but there is a reasonable chance that Mizzou and Kansas could meet in the first every real college football playoff, if things play out as some prognosticators believe. With Kansas playing part of their home games in Missouri this year, and Kansas politicians trying to lure the Chiefs to the other side of the state line, the vitriol between these fan groups might set some records if that game materializes.

Look for Kansas City and Missouri to rebound in the Chiefs and Royals relocation discussion soon. John Rizzo, who served as the Missouri Senate Minority Leader since 2021, starts a new gig in July. He becomes executive director of the Jackson County Sports Complex Authority. As a minority leader, he knows how to get things done in Jefferson City even when he was on the wrong side of the aisle, and he knows where they keep the money.

Look for him to circle the local and state wagons by the end of the summer and put together a package that may keep the Chiefs in Missouri and get the Royals on the move to downtown.

Rizzo is deeply connected on both sides of the river. He’s a St. Pius alum and his dad was a long-time state representative, and his mother was a Jackson County legislator. The process and Missouri need a “hero” to mend these fences, and he might be the best suited to fill that role. Coincidentally, this will also take a lot of your “hero” dollars, but who’s counting anymore?

Happy Juneteenth to you and yours, but for the love of all things holiday, could we just move all holidays to Monday or Friday? I’m not picking sides on holidays; I say move them all to Mondays and/or Friday and let’s quit breaking up our weeks. Lot of old geezers out here like me that like the uninterrupted work weeks and a three-day weekend never hurt anyone.

You guys know that Baby Jesus wasn’t born on the 25th, we could move that one for sure. Anyway, if you ever ascend to a position of power in this country and can make this happen, I’d appreciate it. Until then, I’ll just live with interrupted work weeks.
