The rifle team from VFW Post 4044 with members Dean Winters, Paul Whitters, Jim Shaw, and Danny Calvert fired several shots during the Memorial Day ceremony at the Platte City Cemetery. Scott Borderud, U.S. Army chaplain, spoke during the ceremony.


The Platte City Chamber of Commerce may not be getting $10,000 from the Platte City Board of Aldermen after an ordinance died on Tuesday. The contentious topic had a split vote of 3-3 for a second reading of the ordinance. Mayor Frank Offutt then declined to offer a vote as a tie-breaker and the motion to approve the agreement died.


A crash involving a Central Platte Fire Department vehicle is being investigated by the Platte County Sheriff’s Department. The crash happened on May 22 at 5:01 p.m. at the intersection of HH Hwy. and Bethel Road. The fire truck was said to be responding to a grass fire at the time. The two drivers involved were Randall T. Seedorff, 24, of Platte City, driving a 1996 Ford F-350 owned by the Central Platte Fire Department, and Cody Giese, 23, of Platte City, driving a 1988 Harley Davidson motorcycle.


An alleged sexual assault at the Platte County R-3 High School is being investigated by the Platte City Police Department. According to Richard Sayles, police chief, the incident involved two 16-year-olds at the school.
