Happy and Josephine Smither of Weston will celebrate their 50th wedding anniversary on Friday, May 13, 1994. An open house is planned in observance of the occasion to be held at the American Legion Hall in downtown Weston. It will be held from 6-8 p.m. Hosting the event are their children, Louis and Pam Smither, Floyd and Ellen Smither, and their nine grandchildren. Josephine Best and Happy Smither were married May 13, 1944 at the First Christian Church in Atchison, Kan.


Mr. and Mrs. Frank Dovel are celebrating their 25th wedding anniversary on Saturday, May 14 at the New Market Christian Church from 7-9 p.m. Frank is the son of Mr. and Mrs. L.B. Dovel of Dearborn. He spent 24 years in the Air Force. Vicky is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. James A. Park of Kansas City, North. They were married at Second Creek Christian Church by Rev. Orin Dunham.

John L. Bless, 44, of Weston, Platte County’s public administrator, surrendered to authorities last Wednesday on three counts of felony theft and was freed after posting a $10,000 bond. As reported in The Landmark last week, authorities allege Bless improperly wrote $4,500 in checks to himself from three guardianship accounts he was overseeing in his duties as public administrator.
