A nice-sized crowd gathered on a pleasant November day for a public Veterans Day ceremony in Downtown Platte City on Saturday. The event, sponsored by the City of Platte City, the Platte Purchase Chapter of the Daughters of the American Revolution (DAR), and VFW Post 4055 was held at the Platte City Veterans Memorial Monument in Settler’s Crossing Park at First and Main Street. Featured speaker was Joseph L. Smith, who served as a Cw3(R) (chief warrant officer three is an advanced-level technical and tactical expert) in the US Army. Smith is currently the executive pastor at Christ Chapel. Mayor Tony Paolillo provided the welcome, Michael Lazio offered the convocation and benediction, and Tricia Friddell of the Platte City Chamber of Commerce was the emcee.
