On Thursday, Oct. 5, Missouri Gov. Mike Parson announced the appointment of Megan Benton to fill the newly-created circuit judge position in Platte County.
Benton is currently an associate circuit judge, so her move to circuit judge will create an opening on the local bench for the associate’s position.
In addition, Platte County Circuit Judge Thomas Fincham has announced his retirement at the end of this year, so his position will need to be filled in the coming months, as well.
Benton, of Parkville, holds a bachelor of arts and master of arts in political science from Emory University and a juris doctor from Vanderbilt University.
The name of Benton was one of three on a panel submitted to the governor for the appointment. The other two on the panel were Myles A. Perry, an assistant prosecuting attorney and trial team leader in the Platte County Prosecutor’s Office; and Nicolas J. Taulbee, senior counsel and assistant attorney general, civil litigation division, Missouri Attorney General’s Office in Kansas City.
