Again this week, several hundred households in Platte County are receiving a sample copy of The Landmark, Platte County’s leader in news, information and commentary, in their mailbox.


Three Platte County students (Courtnee Meis, Andrea Plunkett and Liesa Tann) were able to meeting Republican presidential candidate John McCain, his running mate Sarah Palin, and Palin’s husband on Sunday. McCain made a visit to Kansas City, stopping first at Arthur Bryant’s for dinner before arriving at the Presidents Hotel in downtown Kansas City, where he was greeted by supporters.

The Trex Mart convenience store in Dearborn was robbed early Tuesday morning by five people who were later captured in Kansas City, Kan. The store, located along Hwy. Z just off of Interstate 29, was robbed around 12:55 a.m.


A 39-year-old Springfield man was found dead at the northbound rest stop on Interstate 29 just south of Dearborn on Monday evening. After a report from a motorist who found the body, officers arrived to find the white male, Valentin G. Kirilchuk, with an apparent gunshot wound on the floor of the men’s restroom. The victim’s vehicle was found at the rest area. Reports indicate he was a trucker.
