Man weed eating yard killed in alleged DWI crash

ON HWY. M NEAR HWY. H IN PLATTE COUNTY

Authorities say a 33-year-old man weed eating in a yard was struck and killed by a vehicle Tuesday night, May 23, in Platte County.

The one-vehicle crash has led to DWI charges against the driver, Wesley Teague, 38, from Rushville.

On May 23 at approximately 6:45 p.m. the Platte County Sheriff’s Office was notified of a vehicle crash on M Highway near H Highway.

Major Erik Holland says the crash occurred as a 2015 Chevrolet Camaro was traveling northbound on M Highway when it left the road in the 22000 block of M Highway.

The vehicle struck a 33-year-old male–identified as Stephen C. Anderson of Country Club, Mo. in Andrew County–who was weed eating in an adjacent yard. Anderson died at the scene.

Court documents say Teague was driving north on Hwy. M after East Dye Store Road. He allegedly crossed the center line before over-correcting. His car then ran off the east side of the road before striking a concrete block on the edge of a driveway on Hwy. M.

His vehicle continued northbound at a high rate of speed before striking the victim. The vehicle continued north in the ditch and eventually came to rest after colliding with a tree and spinning around, according to court documents.

Teague was taken into custody and is currently being held at the Platte County Detention Center on a $250,000 cash-only bond. He is charged with a felony DWI resulting in the death of another who is not a passenger. According to court documents, Teague’s blood alcohol content was measured at .128 in a breath test. The legal limit in Missouri is .08.

Next hearing in the case is set for June 20. The defendant is being represented by attorney Mark Ferguson.
