30 Years Ago–April 30, 1993

Louis Buntin reflects on 28 years as an educator as he sits at his desk at the North Platte Elementary School in Camden Point, where he is principal. Buntin announced last week that he will retire from full-time duties but will continue as a part-time music teacher.


A group of Platte County R-3 students with mental or physical handicaps waited at the Platte City Middle School Friday afternoon for an R-3 school bus to pick them up to take them to participate in the metropolitan area Kansas City Special Olympics held Friday night and Saturday at Shawnee Mission South High School. The Joseph P. Kennedy Foundation sponsors the Special Olympics, which is a sporting event with races, relays, and other contests. Leaders of the group included April Huffman, Donna Ray, Jean Cole, Carla Shanks, and Mary Jones.


As a part of the 23rd Earth Day students at North Platte Elementary School at Camden Point collected aluminum cans last week. Shown with part of the collection were Marti Boydston, second grade teacher; Kristi Kern, second grade; and Jonus Hubbard, second grade.


Finishing touches for the installation of lights for the Camden Point ballfield were being completed last week. The ballfield is located at E Hwy. and Interurban Road.
