The Missouri Supreme Court last week removed Platte County Associate Circuit Judge Floyd Baber from the bench based solely on incompetence. Baber had been suspended with pay since November of 1991 on the recommendation of a state commission. The opinion stated that Baber “is no longer capable of carrying out all of the duties of an associate circuit judge.” Since no malfeasance was involved, the court allowed Baber to keep his retirement benefits. A judicial nominating commission will begin the task of finding a replacement.

About 20 community leaders from Clay and Platte counties met recently to make plans for a new community festival, scheduled for June 4-5 at Maple Woods Community College. The event, called “Northern Exposure: A Community Spring Festival,” will raise money for landscaping and student scholarships at Maple Woods. The festival will feature Silver Dollar City artists/craftsmen, a classic car show, carnival rides, a barbecue cookout, a petting zoo, and more.
