More details on the planned Price Chopper development in Platte City were announced at a meeting of the Platte City Chamber of Commerce. Current owner of the Country Mart in Platte City, Paul Bresette, spoke about the new grocery store. Bresette said the store will be more than 55,000 sq. ft. and the development will also include about 12,000 sq. ft. for small retail shops. The plans include a full service floral shop, food court, salad bar, deli, bakery and meat smoker.

One longtime Parkville resident took the time to bring a concern about postal service to the forefront at a meeting of the Parkville Board of Aldermen. Virginia Ground requested the board prepare a letter to send to the local post office regarding delivery to certain homes. “Many residents must go down a hill and across West Street to get their mail,” said Ground. “Why can there not be door delivery to these individuals?”

Recently fired city administrator Keith Moody could be working at City Hall in Platte City for up to an additional six months under a severance deal approved on a 5-1 vote by aldermen. The pact calls for Moody to continue to work for the city until July 31, 2008, or (1) until 30 days after the starting date of his replacement; or (2) Moody’s acceptance of a full time job with another employer. His annual salary is nearly $73,000 so six months worth of salary would be roughly $36,500. Alderman Andy Stanton voted against the deal.
