30 Years Ago–January 23, 1993

A preliminary budget calling for $7.9 million in general fund expenditures has been presented by Bob Griffith, county auditor and budget officer. General fund revenues for 1993 are expected to be the same as expenditures, $7.9 million. Last years budget totaled $7.89 million.


A Platte City native, Jay B. Dillingham, 82 was honored by the KCI Northland Regional Chamber of Commerce Saturday as the Northlander of the Year award. Dillingham was born in Platte City and received his law degree from the former Kansas City School of Law. He spent most of his adult life in the livestock marketing business and was president of the Kansas City Stockyards Co. before he retired in 1975.


Candidates have been selected for the Winter Sports king and queen at Platte County R-3 High School. Queen candidates include Moya Teo, Janet Sanders, Kelly Schieber, Marianne Swaney, Shelby Chambers, Louise Springer, and Nikki Thomas. The king nominees are Jeff Thomas, Jason Lindahl, Mat Thomason, Shane Cox, Matt Seten, Fabian Schwieder and Mike Bigus.


Stacey Ann Prescott has been recommended by Sen. Jack Danforth as a finalist in competition for appointment to the United States Air Force Academy. Miss Prescott is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. John D. Prescott of Parkville.
