Airport power ports, urinals and restaurants

New KCI

My favorite new airport news stories are about all the power ports available. We’ve lost our minds. There are days I think we built a $1.5-billion airport so that we had a place to plug in our phones. Surely not, but that might make you think in the coming months when the local news crews run out to the new KCI to show you live video of the power ports.

Apparently, they are also touting the amount of bathroom and restaurant options. I’m not sure why we care what restaurant options are available at our airport. Do you eat at your departure airport? That doesn’t make much sense to me, but you do you. I can’t argue with bathroom options, but I can honestly say I never waited in a line at the old airport to go to the bathroom.

I get the crowd that says “the airport somehow represents the city” but I can fully admit that I don’t care what people who judge a city by the airport think.

Anyway, you’re good to go. Come March, stop by the airport and grab a bite to eat, take a line-free whiz and charge your iPhone. Heck, maybe you could even catch a flight somewhere but I’m not sure about that part.

How long before the current power ports don’t work with our devices? Will we need to pay another tax to convert all the power points?

Thankfully, it takes a few decades for humans to outgrow bathroom and urinal stalls, so we should be good to go for a bit on those bathroom setups.

When did we quit taking the racist historical statues down? Feels like that movement slowed down quickly, but maybe I just quit paying attention.

I moved all my important documents to my garage this week. I’d suggest you do the same.

A couple of years ago, I urged local officials to sell their souls to attract Patrick and Brittany Mahomes to Platte County. I suggested gifting them a few hundred acres was a viable economic development project. Crickets to my suggestion.

Instead, they are building a home in Cass County, and they’ve added a little boy to their family. Because of their proximity to the state line and Johnson County, I’m predicting a Bishop Miege education for the children, and they could have been Park Hill South or Platte County students and it would have been glorious. I’ll forever blame local officials because the next thing you know the Mahomes children will be taking their talents to the University of Kansas and that would be a near tragedy to anyone with an ounce of Missouri pride.

I warned you guys. No going back on this inaction. Going to be painful to watch.

It is past mid-January and most of our area is 10 inches below normal snowfall. I’m super excited. We have a shot at making this a weak winter and proving your grandma’s almanac wrong. If we can get to February without much damage, the adage “it might snow but won’t stick around long” will be in play and if we defeat a winter by a back door beat, I’m good with it.
