The Wells Bank of Platte City is having a time and temperature clock installed on the bank building and you will be able to tell the time and temperature every time you are on Main Street. This will make an interesting conversation piece, especially for the local weather people.


Most businesses in Platte City will be closed, including the City Hall and the Platte County Courthouse, for the New Year’s legal holiday.

Mrs. Tress Roller is retiring as postmaster at the Tracy Post Office on Dec. 30 after 18 years of service. Mrs. Roller’s daughter, Laura, will be clerk until the postal department determines what it intends to do.


Christmas was observed in Platte City with family gatherings and dinners, Christmas programs, special church services and the usual gatherings of friends and relatives.


Miss Marsha West, Kansas City, who represented Platte County Farm Bureau, was named first runner-up in the Missouri Farm Bureau’s annual queen contest, Dec. 4, during Missouri Farm Bureau’s 63rd state convention at Tan-Tar-A Lodge at Osage Beach. Forty young women from throughout the state, all daughters of Farm Bureau members, were entered in the queen contest. Miss West is a high school senior. She is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Billy Joe West of Kansas City..
