High school principal will be superintendent at West Platte

Brock Dover

The West Platte R-2 Board of Education has announced Brock Dover as the next superintendent of schools for the West Platte School District.

After a unanimous vote of the board of education last week, the board extended a two-year contract offer to Dover, who currently serves as the principal at West Platte High School. He will begin work as superintendent July 1, 2023.

Dover will follow Dr. John Rinehart who has served as district superintendent for eight years, and will be retiring in June.
Dover was one of 18 candidates for the position and one of seven candidates considered as Rinehart’s successor.

“Mr. Dover had the resounding support of everyone who has had the good fortune to work with and for him,” West Platte board president Shane Bartee said. “The two words consistently used to describe him are ‘trustworthy’ and ‘respected.'”

“Dr. John Rinehart has done an outstanding job as our superintendent these past several years. He will leave big shoes to fill. The board was committed to finding the right person to continue to lead West Platte in the right direction for our students and staff. Dr. Rinehart and Dr. Mark Harpst assisted the board in the search for a superintendent and were of great help to us. After several interviews with highly-qualified applicants, we were in unanimous agreement that Mr. Dover is the best fit and we look forward to working closely with him on behalf of our Blue Jay community,” said Bartee.

Dover, 46, is currently in his third year as high school principal at West Platte. He has 15 years of experience as a school administrator. He began his career as a teacher and coach in the Santa Fe R-X School District. He then taught and coached football for five years in the Richmond R-XVI School District.

In 15 years in the Richmond R-XVI School District, Dover served as a teacher, coach, assistant principal and assistant superintendent.

“I’m grateful for the opportunity to serve the school and community as the next superintendent at West Platte,” Dover said. “Our school district is regarded as one of the best in the state and I pledge to continue that legacy through servant leadership, dedication and trust.”

Dover grew up and attended school in rural Carrollton. He earned his bachelor’s degree from Missouri Valley College in Marshall, MO, and a master’s degree and specialist’s degree from Lindenwood University in St. Charles.

Dover and his wife, Alison, are residents in the Weston community and have two children; Kendall, 12 and Cale, 10.
