Let us clear some thought space and wind up for the holiday season with clear eyes and fresh minds. Bad opinion dump forthcoming:
A crazed Canadian and Paul Pelosi got in a hammer fight and it’s the same old “threat to democracy” narrative. I’d say get Paul and Nancy the number to ADT, cause that seems like a serious lack of security for the personal home of the third person from the presidency. Is anybody around there packing some heat? That would have solved this problem. That’s old school Midwestern common sense, though, which is in short supply when you get that close to the Pacific Ocean.
James Carville said it during the Bill Clinton campaign nearly 30 years ago. “It’s the economy, stupid.” As much as things changed, they’ve stayed the same. The Republican red wave for the mid terms is going to be fairly dramatic next week because the axiom still trumps every single other issue. People that were thinking about retiring a year ago at this time have seen their costs rise dramatically at the same time they saw their retirement accounts plummet and all of the sudden nothing but the economy matters.
Lots of other issues are claimed to be important, but we will see next week.
I snuck that “trump” into the last paragraph on purpose. I just like the way it makes us all uncomfortable.
I’d like to publicly declare that Herschel Walker is not my biological father.
I have gently placed one foot back on the Kansas City Royals Bandwagon. I expect to have lifted myself fully onboard by next spring. I think it is silly to dislike a public figure that you have never met, but I found it awfully hard to like Mike Matheny. Ever since he was in St. Louis and wrote a manifesto about youth sports, I’ve thought he was a tough personality to take. I found him to be worse than expected as the Royals manager and quietly tuned out. He turned out to be what I expected, a stereotypical St. Louis type guy.
One hundred loss years made that a simple decision. I’ll keep you posted on my fandom.
Interesting fact about the recent National Women’s Soccer Championship game that Kansas City Current played and lot. The game was originally slotted to be broadcast at noon Eastern time, which would have put it at 9 a.m. in Portland, the Current’s opponent and 11 a.m. in Kansas City. An outcry from fans forced CBS’s hand and they changed the game to prime time.
If you missed your 48 Hours episode, now you know.
If I ever die in a mysterious way, I hope it at least makes it on Dateline or 20/20. I’d prefer 48 Hours as I think they have a better product, but dead people can’t be choosy, I’ll take whatever comes my way.
(Guy Speckman can be reached auditioning for a lead role on 48 Hours Mystery)
