Mrs. Helen Clifton enjoyed a 12-day visit with her son T/Sgt. Charles E. Clifton and family of Glyfada, Greece. Charles is stationed at the Hellenison Air Base, Athens.


The Platte County Court has agreed to purchase 3.5 acres of land in Tracy for $18,000 for use as the site of a new county road department office and maintenance facility, but the owners still have to sign the contract. On Thursday, the court unanimously signed the agreement which will be finalized upon completion of a boundary survey and the signatures of the persons selling the property.

The Platte City Business and Professional Women’s Club held its first meeting of the new club year last week at the Platte-Clay Electric Cooperative Building, with the new president, Mrs. Shirley Kimsey, presiding.


The Platte County Pirates lost in the battle with the West Platte Blue Jays 13-7 last Friday night at Weston. For a while it looked like a tie game, but with only 41 seconds left in the game, West Platte’s Don Black scored on a two-yard run to cap an 82-yard drive in nine plays. The kick failed. West Platte scored first in the second quarter with Don Black on a 46-yard run and Dale Kisker kicked the PAT. The Pirates scored in the third quarter when J.D. White caught a pass from Todd Maxwell to top a 70-yard drive in 16 plays. Robert Brooks booted the conversion.
