Platte County R-3 School District is at an all-time high in student enrollment with 1,635 students now attending. One hundred new students were enrolled in the district this year. The elementary and middle school levels share the greatest increase for the district. Due to high enrollment, Sandra Davis has been added to the faculty at Barry School. Davis will be teaching fifth grade class. The district is working toward a five year strategic plan for future growth. By the school year 1995-96, the estimated range of enrollment is 1,800 to 2,050, but probable enrollment is closer to 1,900. The plan also includes building programs for more schools.
Plans are being completed for the annual Harvest Moon Heritage Festival at Dearborn Sept. 26-27. Some of the events being planned include a parade through town, a Little Mr. and Miss contest, quilt show, antique cars, square dancing demonstrations, steam engines, melodramas, food and crafts and Sunday worship.
Matthew and Marie Haskins of Parkville became parents of a baby girl, Hope Elizabeth Haskins, on Sept. 3, 1992.
The Toy Tangle is Platte City’s newest Main Street business, located next to the police headquarters at Second and Main. Paul and Zedna Wangerin of Topeka are the owners. The store features Gotz dolls, Gund stuffed animals, Brio trains, lots of European toys, erector sets and other educational toys.
