Foley got the big “get” with State Senator Tony Luetkemeyer coming on Landmark Live next week and I get to sit second chair. Ed McMahon, if you will. It’s important that I give you a peek behind the scenes. Foley and I were sitting in the last of the summer heat at the Riverwood Winery on a Friday night. We are both socially awkward, so he was drinking some slushy drink and I was drinking a Bud Light, while sitting at a winery. Anyway, we were lamenting the lack of legalized gambling in the State of Missouri. We could nearly spit into Kansas from where we were sitting, but we couldn’t place a bet.
Foley didn’t hesitate. “I’ll text Luetkemeyer, and we’ll get him on Landmark Live and ask him about sports gambling.” He went on to explain that he saw that Luetkemeyer might be on vacation. That didn’t deter us. I blurted out something bold like, “I’d text him now.” Foley did and here we are, working for the people trying to strong arm your senator to get some gambling in place by next year. We don’t do this for the glory, it’s for you. That’s probably not true but believe what you want.
Foley has sobered up and decided that we need to touch on more than sports gambling, but I’ll try to talk him out of that. Join us next week on the Facebook thing.
Just for clarity purposes, we took our wives to the winery. We were not two dudes sitting at the winery listening to music and drinking slushy drinks. Really!
Remember when I told you about former United States Senator Jack Danforth throwing his money and television prowess behind an independent candidate? Yeah, well that phase of Jack’s life has ended unceremoniously. His chosen candidate, John Wood, already quit. Wood burned up a couple of million of Jack’s dollars and just quit because he said we were no longer under threat of Eric Greitens winning the seat.
John and Jack had originally pledged to raise $20 million dollars, yet he quit before the general election. It was also pointed out by news media outlets that Wood really doesn’t live in Missouri. That’s always tough way to get elected as a senator, in my opinion.
Anyway, John’s done, and Jack’s serious speech commercials are presumably over. May the candidacy and Jack’s dollars rest in peace.
It’s pretty cool how Washington insiders just pick the state they want to be senator in, to heck with residency. I’m exploring a run for senator of Idaho. I’m a long term and seasoned connoisseur of potatoes and I like blue football fields. I’m pledging to raise $20 million in the effort, please tell your friends and family in Boise.
I’d like to reiterate that Foley and I do not buddy up and head to wineries together. We did take in a preseason NFL game with Landmark musical talent Brad Carl at the Platte City Pool Hall, home of the famous burgers and ice-cold beer. We did that stint without wives, as it should be. Again, we were working for you as we prepped for the Landmark Pick’em contest. Again, we do all of this for you. You’re welcome.
