Hey. Your Gas Buddy here. It’s time for a gas price update.
I like the fact that so many readers have begun helping me keep a close eye on the price at the pump. So much so that some of you have started messaging me when you’re out of town to let me know gas prices in other parts of the area, state, and country. Keep it up. It takes a village, kinda. And it makes for interesting observations, commentary and conversation. So in the latest update from GasBuddy’s survey of 752 stations in Kansas City, the average price of a gallon of gas (as of Tuesday) is $3.34. Price in Platte City on Tuesday was right in line with that. As you know in recent months the price in Platte City has strangely been notably higher than the Kansas City metro average.
By the way, a few days ago the price of gasoline in Platte City was 12 cents per gallon higher than the price of gasoline at Creekside, just a few miles down I-435 at Parkville. So if it feels like the Platte City gasoline retailers have been taking advantage of you a little bit–and let’s be honest, they have been–Creekside is a close option for those who drive I-435.
If you’re into politics and such, Trudy Busch Valentine, the Democratic candidate for the US Senate seat being vacated by the retiring Roy Blunt, is scheduled to be in Platte County on Saturday, Sept. 10. She is set to be holding a meet-and-greet at the Platte County Democratic Headquarters, 7124 NW Prairie View Road, Kansas City, which is just off the 72nd Street exit along I-29 at Platte Woods.
Bring on cooler weather. That wasn’t an order because I’m not sure any of you out there actually have the power to change the weather, but if you do please lower the temps to daytime highs in the 60s. That’s Foley weather. And everybody deserves more Foleyness, really.
There’s a lot going on the first week of fall. In fact, there’s a lot going on the first day of fall, which according to my calendar is Thursday, Sept. 22.
Platte City Main Street Fall Festival is that night from 5-9 in downtown Platte City. There will be live music by Noah Anthony, plenty of vendors, food and drinks available for purchase, KC Wolf from 5-6 p.m., and other “community appearances,” according to the Platte City Chamber of Commerce. That same night, we’ll have a notable guest on our Landmark Live show, which will go live at 6 p.m. from Landmark Live studios in downtown Platte City. Next week we’ll announce that special guest.
Then on Friday, Sept. 23 there is a Plein Art Paint Out happening on Platte City’s Main Street from 10 am. to 7 p.m. followed by Art in the Park at Platte Ridge Park on Saturday, Sept. 24 from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m.
And also on that Friday, Sept. 23 the Platte County Federated Republican Women will be hosting their annual picnic at Platte Ridge Park, with what sounds like every notable local Republican on hand for the 5:30 p.m. event.
I guess what I’m saying, kids, is that nobody should be commenting “I’m bored” anytime from Sept. 22 through Sept. 24.

Call me a relic but I’m old enough to remember when presidents didn’t incite riots at our nation’s capitol and then get clingy with classified documents while storing them in a country club.
Sports gambling is now legal in the state of Kansas. This was one of the topics we focused on during our most recent Landmark Live episode, which aired live on Aug. 25 and can still be found on our Facebook page. I’d like to personally thank the 3,000 of you who watched the show but to do that I’d have to take some time off work and track you down. So instead, I’m just saying thank you in this column space.
Remember last year my “pay your mortgage” pick of the year was to take the Raiders over their projected win total? It hit, so now if you followed the recommendation your home is paid off and you’re lying on a beach. This year’s “buy a vacation home” pick is to take the Eagles over their projected win total of 9.5. Yes, the Eagles will win at least 10 games. When they do, remember your friend.
The Alley at the American Legion in downtown Parkville and the KC Cattle Company in downtown Parkville have put in requests to host a future Landmark Live episode in their places of business, as well as Ten & Two Coffee Bar at Parkville. We’re also in talks with the Creekside folks about doing a Live in the huge courtyard area at the hot new development.
