After countless hours of planning, strategic meetings and two hour discussion at Tuesday’s board of aldermen meeting, Parkville city leaders have approved a preliminary plat site, development plan and rezoning for a project to be constructed at the southwest corner of Hwy. 45 and I-435. The 67-acre vacant area will eventually offer commercial space, a 35-acre business park and mixed use development, according to plans. Residents for and against the proposal listened to the project architect’s presentation during which legal counsel, community development, a MoDOT official and architects explained their vision for the Vertical Ventures III site plan.

Parkville was named one of the top 10 coolest small towns in the United States in the September issue of Budget Travel. “A little bit hip and a little bit homey, these up and coming towns guarantee a fun detour on our next road trip,” says the magazine article. “

A train and car collided on Saturday just south of Farley along Hwy. 45. The incident occurred around 11:45 a.m. Saturday near the intersection of Hwy. 45 and Baker Road. The driver of the vehicle was lifeflighted to KU Med with severe internal injuries. The sheriff’s department said there were two people on the train and after the train stopped, they saw the driver walking down the tracks. The crossing has signs but no lights or drop down barricades.
