‘No Karens Allowed’ on
Landmark Live Thursday

Newspaper’s podcast kicks off its 6th fall season tonight

It’s not for the faint of heart. Or overly sensitive.

Co-host Guy Speckman previews the upcoming Landmark Live episode this way: “Don’t tune in if you’re a Karen wanting to complain about something.”

Landmark Live, The Landmark’s videocast which is broadcast on Facebook at Platte County Landmark, will begin its 6th fall season with an episode Thursday, Aug. 25 at 6 p.m.

This week’s episode will feature Landmark publisher Ivan Foley, columnist Guy Speckman and local musician Brad Carl touching on a variety of topics that happen to float to the top of their minds during the show. Tech Man Schneider will be on hand to provide graphics and handle other stuff the hosts are not smart enough to do.

Due to a variety of factors, the bad boys of broadcasting have only been on the air one time in the year 2022, which was a June episode featuring new Parkville Mayor Dean Katerndahl.

But that’s about to change. Fall typically means a consistent stream of Landmark Live episodes. This year some remote broadcasts are planned, as The Landmark has plans to take the show out on the road.

The lack of episodes in 2022 means there is some pent up immaturity in the hosts, Speckman warns.

“Foley and I have vowed to have nothing but cynical, juvenile fun on this episode,” Speckman said this week.

And he’s not wrong.

In addition to Speckman and Foley touching on a variety of topics–including politics and football–Brad Carl will offer up his latest piece of music. The man behind the smash hit “Meet Me at the Speakeasy,” Carl’s latest tune–called The Landmark Pick’em Blues– is destined to zoom to the top of some chart or the bottom of some barrel. He’ll unveil the lyric video to his new song on the show.

As the title implies, Carl’s latest song focuses on Landmark Pick’em, the newspaper’s football prognosticating contest that is in its second season and is open to the public at plattecountylandmark.com. Local restaurants sponsor prizes in the contest, which is sponsored by the Tony Farr Real Estate Group of Platte City.

Prizes given out during the Landmark Pick’em contest in 2022 will include gift certificates from a variety of area restaurants, including Stone Canyon Pizza at Parkville, Ten and Two Coffee at Parkville, Nick and Jake’s at Parkville, and the Parkville American Legion.

If you miss the live broadcast of the show, never fear. The video remains on The Landmark’s Facebook page for viewing at your leisure. The video also gets posted to the Platte County Landmark’s YouTube channel.
