Ralph Shackelford, Platte City, was inducted into the Missouri 4-H Hall of Fame at a special ceremony Aug. 12 at the Missouri State Fair. Ralph was one of the 33 volunteers honored for the long term commitment to 4-H in their local counties.
Ruth Courtney of Camden Point will celebrate her 100th birthday at a reception from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. Sunday, Aug. 26 at the Camden Point Baptist Church. Friends and relatives are invited. No gifts, please. Ruth was born on Aug. 30, 1907. She married Harold Courtney on Jan. 30, 1931. Harold passed away in 1985. Her children and their spouses are Robert and Phyllis Courtney of Kansas City, Larry and Lise Courtney of Platte City and Shirley Hill of Camden Point. A daughter, Linda Courtney Stollars, passed away in 1981. There are seven grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren.
Last week the Parkville Board of Aldermen approved the appointment of Marc Sportsman to fill the empty board seat vacated by the move of Brian Atkinson. Sportsman will fill the vacant Ward 4 seat until April of 2008.
U.S. Congressman Sam Graves will be in Platte City on Wednesday, Aug. 22 at deCapo Teas and Eatery, 325 Main St. He will give a quick update and listen to residents’ thoughts and concerns. Graves is a four-term congressman representing 26 counties in Missouri.
