Construction of a third runway at KCI is expected to be completed by the end of the year, airport officials have announced. The new runway will measure 9,500 ft. by 150 ft. and run parallel to the north/south runway. Two parallel taxiways are included. The taxiways are 75 ft. wide. Final completion date is subject to weather and other variables. The bulk of the $26 million funding comes from the federal government’s FAA Airport Improvement Program. The third runway is expected to help Kansas City improve its air transportation system.
