Many Platte County residents have been “charged” with various offenses and are scheduled to serve time in jail on Aug. 4. The “criminals” are volunteers who are helping raise money for the American Cancer Society through the Jail & Bail event. The project begins at 9 a.m. on Tuesday. The convicts will be arrested and hauled to jail facilities set up at Super Save. They will then have an opportunity to make phone calls to raise the necessary bail. Their friends also can pay to keep the arrestee in custody. Once bail is met, the convicts will be paroled and escorted back to their places of business. The list of jail birds includes Jerry Hagg, Jack Coots, Jim Glick, Ken Pearson, Julie Elliott, Hal Swaney and Keith Hicklin.
