Two persons of interest still in jail
The shooting death of Taylor Hawkins, 31, of Platte City, remains under investigation.
The shooting took place at about 7:42 p.m. on June 28 in the yard of a residence in the 28000 block of Oberdiek Lane in rural Platte County, authorities say.
Major Erik Holland said this week that the investigation remains active. Two people who were listed by authorities as being persons of interest in the case are in custody on charges of tampering and trespassing.
McKayla Archambeau, age 22, is charged with a felony of tampering with a motor vehicle, alleging she was in possession of a 2012 Ford Taurus without the consent of the owner.
Cordero T. Cervantes, 32, is charged with a misdemeanor count of trespassing for allegedly unlawfully entering a building located at 28000 Oberdiek Lane.
According to court documents, Archambeau and Cervantes were arrested at a Days Inn hotel in Carlisle, Ark. on July 7. Court documents allege the two were in possession of a stolen Ford Focus at the time of their arrest in Arkansas.
Court records indicate Archambeau also had an outstanding warrant for resisting arrest in Clay County, as well as outstanding warrants for possession of a controlled substance and resisting arrest in Platte County.
Court records show Cervantes had a pending charge of driving with a revoked/suspended license in Platte County. Authorities say he has previously been found guilty of operating a vehicle while intoxicated and endangering a person.
Both Archambeau and Cervantes are facing a cash-only bond of $10,000.
Archambeau’s next court appearance is set for Aug. 2. Cervantes next court appearance was set to take place on Tuesday, July 19 as The Landmark was heading to press.
Court records list Cervantes’ address as Indianapolis, In. Archambeau’s address is listed as Parkville.

IN COURT DOCUMENTS
In court documents viewed by The Landmark, investigators outline their allegations against both Archambeau and Cervantes.
Authorities say the owner of the Ford Focus reported his vehicle stolen to the Mission, Kan. Police Department on June 27. The owner told police he previously let Archambeau use his vehicle, however she failed to show up at a specified location on June 27 with the car. The owner texted Archambeau to advise her he was reporting the vehicle as stolen, but Archambeau declined to communicate with him and did not return the car, authorities say.
Authorities allege Archambeau and Cervantes showed up at a house in the 100 block of North Street in Platte City early on the morning of June 28 in a black Ford Focus. A resident at that location told police that Archambeau and Cervantes worked on the Ford several hours before leaving together in the stolen vehicle.
A person whose identity is redacted from court documents told detectives that he and another person whose name is also redacted drove a silver Dodge Stratus to the Casey’s in Platte City where they met Archambeau and Cervantes in the Ford Focus, which Archambeau was driving.
Detectives say video surveillance from Casey’s shows that at about 6:30 p.m. on June 28 the two subjects arrive in the Dodge Stratus and park on one side of a gas pump. Court papers indicate a black Ford Focus pulls up and parks on the opposite side of the same pump and two occupants of the Stratus exit their vehicle and walk toward Casey’s. Authorities say at one point a male gets out of the front passenger seat of the Focus and walks over to one of the other subjects. They talk for a moment and the male gets back in the front passenger seat of the Focus. Both vehicles leave together and travel in the same direction, according to court documents.
The two vehicles–believed to be four persons in all–traveled directly to the 28000 block of Oberdiek Lane in rural Platte County, according to court documents.
At about 7:42 p.m., just over an hour after the stop at Casey’s, a call was placed to 911 reporting that an incident had occurred at 28000 Oberdiek Lane. Police were told Archambeau and Cervantes had left Oberdiek Lane in the Ford Focus.
Court documents indicate the only tenant of 28000 Oberdiek Lane was not at the property when the incident occurred and had not given anyone permission to be there.
TAYLOR HAWKINS
Funeral services for the victim of the shooting, Taylor Hawkins, were held Saturday, July 9 at First Baptist Church of Platte City.
According to his obituary, Hawkins is survived by his mother Celeste J. Hawkins, of Platte City, MO., his father L. Kent Brown, of Chicago, and baby Olivia.
Taylor graduated from Platte County R-3 High School in Platte City in 2009. Taylor grew up in both rural and urban cities. Taylor loved spending summers at his second hometown, Chicago, Ill., working at Park Grill with his dad.
His obituary described him as “a very talented, self-taught drummer, bass and guitar player.”
