Daytime event downtown; nighttime fireworks

Free food, entertainment and a lot of kids/family activities are in store in Platte City when the city hosts its July 4th Celebration.

The downtown event will run from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Platte City’s historic Main Street near the Platte County Courthouse on Monday, July 4.

A shuttle service will offer rides to/from the Platte County High School main entrance and Main Street. The shuttle service begins at 9:30 a.m. and will run until 2:30 p.m.

This week city officials furnished a map showing where each activity will be stationed on Main, Third and Fourth Streets in the downtown business district. Highlights include the entertainment being stationed in front of the courthouse, yard games and a bounce house, cotton candy and popcorn options available in front of the courthouse as well.

Directly across from the courthouse will be face painting, a La Cabana food stand, popsicles, balloon artistry and caricatures. A mega obstacle course for kids will be set up in the middle of the street in the 300 block of Main, which is in front of the courthouse.

Three food trucks and a hot dog stand will be stationed near all four corners of Third and Main. The dunk tank will be set up this year near the southwest corner of Third and Main in the area of Miller-Donnelli Insurance Agency.

The city again this year will pick up the tab on meal options from multiple food trucks and a downtown restaurant that will have an outside offering that day.

Food trucks with free food options at the downtown celebration will include Big Daddy and Sons BBQ, Jadabay’s Tasty Kitchen, and Highway 92 Food Service. In addition, free food options courtesy of the city will be available from a hot dog stand operated by Boy Scout Troop 1351 and from La Cabana, the Mexican restaurant located on Main.

Menus for the free food options will include:

La Cabana: 3 soft tacos plus chips and salsa; or 3 hard tacos plus chips and salsa; or taco salad plus chips and salsa (beef or chicken with lettuce, tomato and cheese).

Big Daddy and Sons BBQ: Pork on bun and BBQ beans; or brisket on bun and BBQ beans; pork nachos; or brisket nachos.

Jadabay’s Tasty Kitchen: Boneless wings and fries; or cheeseburger and fries; or chicken philly and fries; or steak philly and fries.

Highway 92 Food Service: Taco fries; or bacon ranch fries; or two chicken strips and fries; or plain or cheese fries.
