First Watch location is also coming to Platte County

Two Whataburger restaurants are scheduled to open in Platte County in 2023. And yes, those two locations will be owned by the Whataburger franchise that includes Patrick Mahomes, star quarterback for the Kansas City Chiefs.

There is earth-moving activity at the intersection and signage recently went up in Platte County at the intersection of N. Ambassador Drive and Northwest Skyview, which is across Ambassador from the Tiffany Springs Market Center.

A sign indicates the intersection is the future home of both a Whataburger restaurant and a First Watch restaurant. The exact address is listed as 8551 N. Ambassador Drive.

KMO Burger will be the owner of the Whataburger location going in on N. Ambassador, and KMO is the group that includes Mahomes. The Chiefs’ quarterback grew up in Texas, where Whataburger is based, and became a fan of the burger chain in his youth.

KMO Burger in recent days opened its first Whataburger in Kansas City just north of Legends Outlets in Kansas City, Kan.

“As part of KMO Burger, I am excited our team is opening our first location in Kansas City. It’s great to bring a gift from my first home to my second home,” Mahomes said in a press release about the restaurant opening in KCK.

The KCK spot is the fifth area Whataburger, as corporate-owned restaurants have already opened in places such as Blue Springs, Lee’s Summit, Independence and Overland Park.

Whataburger also plans to open in the 9100 block of Hwy. 45 in Parkville in 2023, basically across Hwy. 45 from Price Chopper. Mahomes’ group will also own/operate that location.

As point of reference for readers, the Whataburger on N. Ambassador will be 12 miles and a 14-minute drive from downtown Platte City, and the Parkville location will be 15 miles and an 18 minute drive from downtown Platte City.

On June 14, KMO plans to break ground on a new Whataburger to go in at 400 NW Barry Road in the re-developed Metro North Shopping Center project known as Metro North Crossing.

The Metro North Whataburger is scheduled to open later this year.

A Hawaiian Bros Island Grill restaurant is also being planned in the Metro North Crossing development.

FIRST WATCH

A First Watch restaurant is planned at the N. Ambassador/NW Skyview intersection.

There are already approximately 10 First Watch restaurants in the Kansas City area, with the nearest to the Platte County seat being the one at 8758 NE 82nd Terrace, Kansas City, which is located off of Hwy. 152 near Liberty.

First Watch is an American restaurant chain based in Bradenton, Fla. The chain has more than 420 locations in 28 states.

First Watch offers menu items such as avocado toast, smoked salmon eggs benedict, farm stand breakfast tacos, lemon ricotta pancakes, and a fresh juice bar.

According to the chain’s online information, the name First Watch is a nautical reference to the first work shift aboard a ship as First Watch restaurants are only open from 7 a.m. to 2:30 p.m.
