Easter Bunnies, Senate cash and such

Political cash

You guys understand the Easter Bunnies are not a religious figure or symbol, right? Can we all also agree that “bunnies” do not lay eggs? Ok, we have a baseline of understanding going forward. We will work on why boys aren’t girls in the coming weeks.

I got a buddy that is starting to raise chickens. I’m officially that old. He used to ask me what bar to meet him at and now he asks me if I want to run by and see his “chicks.” Life doesn’t get easier folks, hang in there.

This is the point in the year that I explain to you that the Royals are not good this year. The only upside to that is that it looks like a solid year of affordable ticket prices. My daughter went to a Friday night game and snagged $30 box seats, just a few rows back. That’s good if you’re a buyer, not a great sign if you are the Royals. I’d like to tell you I know what I’m talking about, but the crazy MLB television deals have prevented me from seeing much of them this year, but I think it is safe to assume they are not going to be great.

I could not help myself and I dug into this library issue that The Landmark has dutifully reported on of late. I know less than when I started the dig. The 53-year-old director “retired,” citing a little bit of everything from personal to professional issues. This story is fascinating and appears extremely complex with strife among the board and staff dating back to 2016. I’m not smart enough to figure this whole thing out, but I find it amazing that a library board and operation could become controversial. Perhaps I’m just so simple that I don’t understand such complex matters.

It seems like the mission would be agreeable to even the most diverse of ideologies. Get education and information into the hands and heads of the patrons. What I do know about life is that smart people sure can complicate easy tasks, especially when they’re spending taxpayer money.

For the sake of disclosure, I have not visited a public library for years. I get most of my critical thinking information from a couple of regulars at the Old Chicago bar by the airport or Facebook.

My friend tells me that his “chicks” will put out a pretty healthy crop of eggs for the first couple of years and then it tails off. I’ll let you insert your own parable joke here, I’m already on the edge of acceptable journalistic practices.

My man Sen. Tony Luetkemeyer is racking up some serious coin on his way to an election victory to remain your senator. According to the Missouri Times, the Parkville senator has banked a cool $632,696 for his campaign. I’m not an expert, but that’s not chump change you find in the couch cushions. That’s the kind of bank you find on private jets and such.

That’s enough money to buy some print, radio and TV time and still get some of those little footballs with his name on them to throw at Homecoming parades. But again, I’m no expert on how to spend $632,696 to win an election.

However, after seeing that bank account, I’m all Team Tony going forward. Gonna get my arm in shape to throw those little footballs for the campaign.
