30 Years Ago–April 17, 1992

The Buckler family is inviting all friends and relatives to a party to help Mamie Buckler celebrate her 100th birthday. Mamie Buckler was born in Bath County, Kentucky on May 6,1892. She has lived at the Platte City Caring Center for the past year. She previously lived in Weston, since 1952, and in Platte County since 1909. She was married at Tracy in 1911 to Grover “Mann” Buckler. They had four children: Virgil, Truman, Gilbert and Mary Catherine. Mamie Buckler has 15 grandchildren, 30 great-grandchildren and 13 great-great-grandchldren.


Pearl Brown was sworn in as the new mayor of Platte City by city clerk Joanne Renz at the regular meeting of the Platte City Board of Aldermen Tuesday night. In addition to the mayor, the oath of office was given to four new aldermen and the judge of the municipal division. The four new aldermen are Roger Baskett, Paul Renz, Randy Cannon, Cecil Barton and the municipal division judge is Jack Hansel.


Frank Souther, Platte City, was 98 years old on April 13, 1992. Mr. and Mrs. Souther have both been residents of the Platte City Caring Center over a year. Frank was born in the Hampton area in what was known as the Walker Woods in a log cabin. Today the north-south runway at KCI Airport flies over the Walker Woods location. Souther lived in the Hampton area where he was a farmer until the farm was purchased to build the KCI Airport.
