15 Years Ago–February 28, 2007

Officially, it’s not yet spring of 2007 but already the 2008 election season is heating up in Platte County. Kathy Dusenbery, mayor of Parkville the last three years, told The Landmark on Tuesday that she will challenge incumbent first district Platte County Commissioner Tom Pryor next year. Both are Republicans. Assuming both file for the office as expected, Dusenbery and Pryor would square off in a primary in August of 2008.

A new Community Improvement District may be formed in Platte City. The proposed district is in a portion of an area bounded to the northwest by Kentucky Ave., to the west by Ensign Drive, to the south by residential lots and to the east by undeveloped property. A 5/8th cent sales tax would be collected within the district and would be used to generate funds for parking and driveway improvements to a prospective grocery store proposed to be built on the property, which is behind the new strip mall that houses Goin’ Postal and other shops.

Parkville resident and business owner Tom Hutsler has decided to forego the upcoming race for alderman in ward one this April. Hutsler announced Thursday that he would not actively campaign for the position against incumbent Deborah Butcher. The two candidates opposed each other two years ago when Hutsler lost by only 16 votes. He said the timing was not right for him to run.
