Mr. and Mrs. Charles Umphreys attended the wedding of their son, Ray Umphreys, to Bonnie Bonnicelli at Wichita, Kan., Monday, Feb. 14.


Mr. and Mrs. Don Clevenger and daughters were Sunday dinner guests at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Neal Wright of Shawnee Mission. After dinner, all the girls attended a bridal shower given for Mr. and Mrs. Wright’s oldest daughter, Ramona, who is to marry Feb. 18.


The employee-owned Kansas City Star Co. has been sold to Capital Cities Communications, Inc., a New York broadcast and newspaper operation.


Mr. and Mrs. Donovan K. Wingate of Platte City announce the engagement of their daughter, Kathryn Kim, to James Ronald Keadle, son of Mr. and Mrs. Joseph L. Keadle of Independence, Mo.


Miss Karen McClellan, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Charles McClellan of Ferrelview is to be married March 4 to Carl Phillips of Osborn, Mo.


Dr. Jerry D. Jenks of Platte City attended the 16th Annual Heart of America Contact Lens congress in Kansas City. The event attracts optometrists and optometry assistants from the Midwest. Dr. Jenks maintains an office at 242 Main Street in Platte City. He, his wife, Nancy, and their daughter, Ashley, live on First Street. Dr. Jenks is an alumnus of Southern College of Optometry in Memphis, Tenn.
