Wrong-way crash on I-29 leaves three injured

A vehicle traveling the wrong way on Interstate 29 led to a head-on crash that injured three people, two of them seriously.

The crash occurred at 1:42 a.m. on Sunday, Jan. 9 on I-29 at Tiffany Springs Parkway.

According to the Missouri State Highway Patrol, a 2002 Chevrolet driven by Jason N. Baird, 21, of Kansas City, was traveling the wrong direction in the northbound lane of the interstate and struck a 2007 Hyundai being driven by Elise K. Edwards, 20, of Lagrange, Indiana. After the initial head-on collision between those two vehicles, a third vehicle then overtook and struck Edwards’ Hyundai on the passenger side.

According to the crash report, Baird suffered serious injuries and was taken by KC Fire to North Kansas City Hospital. Edwards suffered minor injuries and was transported by private vehicle to North Kansas City Hospital. Makayla L. Rikli, 23, of Independence, Mo., a passenger in Edwards’ vehicle, suffered serious injuries and was transported by KC Fire to North Kansas City Hospital.
