Two have already filed to run for Parkville mayor

A three-year term as mayor is one of the offices up for election in the spring at the City of Parkville. The municipal election will be held on April 5.

Filing for city offices opened Tuesday, Dec. 7 and will close at 5 p.m. on Tuesday, Dec. 28.

Filing can be done at Parkville City Hall. It should be noted City Hall will be closed for the holidays on Dec. 23 and Dec. 24.

As of 12:35 p.m. Tuesday, Dec. 7, two candidates had already filed for the mayor position, which is currently held by Nan Johnston.

The two filings for mayor are Jason Sears and Dean Katerndahl. Katerndahl, current chair of the city’s planning commission, had recently made a public announcement about his intention to run.

Other positions up for grabs at Parkville in this election cycle are the ward one alderman seat currently held by Tina Welch; the ward two alderman seat currently held by Dave Rittman; the ward three alderman spot currently held by Robert Lock; and the ward four alderman post currently held by Marc Sportsman.

As of 12:35 p.m. Tuesday, Dec. 7, the following filings for alderman positions had occurred:

Ward one: Tina Welch, incumbent; Nick Casale.

Ward two: Bob Bennett.

Also to be filled is the municipal judge post, currently held by Kevin Humiston.
