An additional ALDI store will open in Platte County this week.

As previously reported by The Landmark, a new ALDI location is going in near I-29 and 64th Street, Kansas City in southern Platte County. ALDI have said the store will open on Thursday, Dec. 9 at 6328 North Chatham Ave., Kansas City.

ALDI says it will host a “socially distant ribbon cutting ceremony” for the new store at 8:30 a.m. on Dec. 9.

This will be the second ALDI location in Platte County, with the other being at Tiffany Springs.

Propelled by an investment of more than $5 billion to open new stores and remodel existing ones across the country, ALDI says it is investing heavily in the Kansas City area. “Through new stores and remodels, ALDI is ensuring that the rapidly growing community of local ALDI fans has convenient access,” company officials said in a press release. With two new locations and four existing store renovations planned by year-end, ALDI is set to operate more than 35 stores in the market by the end of 2021.

The Kansas City region is also a key part of the company’s broader expansion of its renewable energy portfolio. ALDI says it is on track to install solar panels on approximately 15 Kansas City-area stores and its regional distribution center by the end of 2021. These solar panels are projected to power 40%-60% of each stores’ total energy needs.

“We’ve been in the Kansas City market for more than 30 years, but the last few have been transformative with our expansion and improvements to existing stores,” said Mark Bersted, Olathe division vice president for ALDI. “In 2021, we’ve been busier than ever in the best way possible. We’re proud and passionate about our Kansas City growth because we’re dedicated to providing high-quality, fresh groceries at unbeatable ALDI prices to as many shoppers as possible.”

ALDI says its stores are purposefully designed for simplicity and efficiency. A typical store is approximately 12,000 square feet of retail space, making ALDI stores much easier to navigate than traditional grocery stores. Stores also feature open ceilings, natural lighting and are built with environmentally friendly materials. Most importantly, ALDI stores are optimized to provide the cleanest and safest shopping environment possible, as the health and safety of customers and employees is the company’s top priority. In addition, the retailer remains focused on ensuring stores are stocked with food and household essentials customers need, including healthy, convenient options and a robust selection of produce delivered fresh to stores daily.

Known as private-label pioneers, the ALDI business model is intentionally designed to offer customers high-quality products at low prices, every day. The retailer says it consistently maintains low prices by working with the best partners to curate a selection of more than 90% exclusive brands.

ALDI says it also remains focused on expanding curbside pickup to even more stores.
