The board of directors of Saint Luke’s Hospital of Kansas City and Spelman Memorial Hospital of Smithville, Mo. have approved an agreement for Spelman and Spelman/Saint Luke’s hospitals to become affiliates of Saint Luke’s Hospital. Legal documents were signed Nov. 20.


Mr. and Mrs. Kirk A. Bettes, Platte City, have announced the birth of their daughter, Elizabeth Arehart, on Nov. 5, 1991 at Spelman/Saint Luke’s Hospital. She weighed nine pounds and one ounce. Maternal grandparents are Mr. and Mrs. F.M. Wilson, Columbia, Mo. The paternal grandmother is Mrs. Gary Bettes, Belton, Mo.

The First Baptist Church of Platte City has called the Rev. Russell Savage as pastor. He will begin his ministry officially with services Sunday, Dec. 1. He has moved to Platte City with his wife Stephanie and four children.


Chamber of Commerce and city officials joined Friday for an official ribbon cutting ceremony to welcome a new business to Platte City, Gaslight Realty.


On Thursday evening, Dec. 5 at 7 p.m. the Platte City fifth graders under the direction of Debra Dance will present a Christmas concert for the enjoyment of their parents and community. The evening has been titled “The Hanging of the Greens” as the students commemorate the beginning of the holiday season with the lighting of the school Christmas tree.
