Rome was not built in a day. And neither will the additions at Barry School and Siegrist Elementary for Platte County R-3 School District. But Siegrist’s additions may be complete in January 2008 while the new Barry School should be ready by fall 2008, according to two presenters from ACI Frangkiser Hutchens architects.
The Platte County R-3 School District will soon drop Coventry Health as its health insurance carrier and will make a decision on a replacement company, assistant superintendent Dr. Greg Frost reported Thursday night at the November meeting of the R-3 board of education.
Kick off the holiday season with an old-fashioned celebration of Christmas on Wednesday, Nov. 22 at 5:30 p.m. The Platte County Courthouse steps will be the stage for holiday performances by Platte County R-3’s vocal groups, Paxton Singers and Sound Express. Don Wingate, the 2006 Truman Glenn Award recipient, will flip the switch at 6 p.m. to light up the courthouse. Platte City Mayor Dave Brooks and Platte County Presiding Commissioner Betty Knight will conclude the opening with their holiday messages.
Alderman Bill Edwards has resigned at the City of Dearborn to “head south for the winter,’ leaving an opening on the towns’ governing body. Mayor Frank Downing this week announced he is interested in hearing from Dearborn residents who may have a desire in being appointed to replace Edwards.
