Some in the audience at the Platte City Civic Center described Tuesday night’s mandated annexation public hearing as basically a repeat of the annexation hearing the city held in August–one major difference was there were 100 fewer people in attendance. Many annexation opponents boycotted Tuesday night’s hearing. “It’s apparent that the mayor and his four aldermen have no interest in considering the comments that aren’t favorable toward this flawed and costly annexation scheme. So we don’t see any need to waste our time. We’re not going to dignify this kangaroo court,” Bob Shaw, local attorney, told The Landmark prior to the hearing.
The Weston Irish Fest apparently does not bring the luck o’ the Irish to all Weston residents. Carolyn Larsen, a Weston resident in the 800 block of Thomas St., railed against some people who attended the Weston Irish Fest 2006 on Oct. 13-15. Larsen complained that some of the visitors to Weston’s annual Irish Fest do not display good manners and do not respect Weston property owners’ rights. “Somebody moved a bench out of my yard and placed it in front of my door. Then two cars were parked in my yard,” Larsen said.
