The City of Platte City must pay plaintiff Harold Coons’ legal fees as part of the settlement of a Sunshine Law legal action against the city. A settlement was approved by Platte County Circuit Court Judge Lee Hull on Friday. As part of the settlement, the city agreed to remove its annexation questions from the November election ballot, and will have to cover any and all costs associated with doing so. “The entire Platte City community owes a debt of gratitude to Harold Coons. He has demonstrated that one individual can make a difference,” Bob Shaw, attorney for the plaintiff, said Friday after the settlement had been approved.
On Saturday, Sept. 30 in Parkville, dogs dressed in couture pet clothing were being pushed in strollers by their human companions instead. The first annual Paws in the Park Dog Walk Festival fundraiser was hosted by the Friends of the Parkville Animal Shelter (FOPAS).
Concerned onlookers busted out the windshield of a 1997 Ford truck and pulled the driver, Anthony Carter, 30, of Kansas City from the burning wreckage before the man was entirely consumed by flames on Thursday night, according to the Platte County Sheriff’s Department. Carter received serious burns and injuries and was airlifted to the KU Medical Center. The two-vehicle accident occurred at the intersection of Hwy. F and Hwy. EE near Dearborn at 9:09 p.m.
