Week 4 – The Dude Abides

Tennis, basketball, and even some soccer leagues do not allow ties. In addition, baseball doesn’t allow for ties (except in spring training). The same can be said for cricket, swimming, boxing and wrestling. Here, at Landmark Pickem, thanks to Tech Guy Schneider’s multi-layered tie-breaking scoring system there should not be any ties. According to Schneider’s back-of-the-napkin math, the odds of a tie among first place winners is one and four thousand ninety-six (16 head-to-head results x 16 over/under pick results x 16 against-the-spread results)

In Week 4, there were 64 individual players and somehow, among those 64 players, and against the 1:4096 odds, we managed to have a first place tie. Time to go get a lottery ticket, I guess.

The winners for Week 4 in order are:

  1. Todd Shifflett with 12 picks correct and 20 tie-breaking points.
Guy Speckman with 12 picks correct and 20 tie-breaking points.
  2. Beau Sigrist with 12 picks correct and 17 tie-breaking points.
  3. Brady Testorff with 12 picks correct and 10 tie-breaking points.

Speckman—who by the way becomes the first person to win a week twice, a pretty big deal—is giving up his share of the top prize since he is a Landmark columnist. So, Todd Shifflett gets the $20 gift certificate to Nick and Jake’s in Parkville all to himself.

Beau Siegrist, please send your mailing address to ivan@plattecountylandmark.com and we’ll get your second place prize of a $5 gift certificate to Ten & Two Coffee Bar in Parkville in the mail to you.

There’s no prize for third place, we just mentioned Brady’s name to stroke his ego a bit.

Honorable mentions go to “The Dude” for placing fourth with 11 correct picks while simultaneously invoking fond memories of the Big Lebowski (which I doubt Ivan has bothered to watch…. But he should…)

And now, back to the countdown. Players, it’s time to start making your Week Five selections.
